SHARK
and RAY FEEDING:
The true specialty of Raanui Tours, this company was one of the first
on Bora bora to popularize the fascinating activity of shark and ray feeding
in the lagoon. Safe for all age groups, Raanui tours takes you out to
the far end of the lagoon (near the reefs) by means of their outrigger canoe
to discover and marvel at various species of sharks, rays, and other fish
common to the waters. There you will be equipped with masks and snorkel,
(no fins because they scare the sharks) and go overboard into the shallow
waters where you will be instructed to grab an underwater rope attached
to a bouy. (This keeps everyone in an easy to manage group for the best
viewing possibilities.)

Magnificent
sharks, rays, and many other
types of beautiful tropical
fish will at once be all around
you... but don't
worry, they're not after you,
they just want their daily lunch
brought to them by your trusty
hosts and guides! They'll have
several large fish carcasses
with them to tempt the animals
- and they love it! (There are
always at least 2 guides on
all the tours) The average size
sharks are 3-5 feet long and
the stingrays no larger than
3 feet across. On a good day,
there are up to 30 sharks and
20 rays feeding all at once,
making for an exciting and interesting
experience you will never forget!
(Note
on the safety issue for anyone
scared of sharks: NO ONE has
EVER been bitten or attacked
on any of these tours, and their
have literally been thousands.
The sharks in the Bora bora
lagoon are well fed and not
interested in people when there
is so much accessable food all
around!)
After
the shark and ray feeding experience,
the outrigger will take you
to an excellent snorkeling spot
of your guide's choosing to
see more species of fish, wonderful
coral, and the chance to feed
the fish by hand if you wish
with supplied bread.
Then, your canoed back to base
where you can think about what
you've just seen...

persons, maximum of 30.
Cost of tour is $55.00 US dollars. |
SNORKELING
TOURS:
If you were born and raised on the island of Bora bora, and you have
a snorkeling business, chances are you know where the best snorkeling spots
are on the island, and Raanui Tours fits that description perfectly. They
are masters of lagoon snorkeling tours.
Outrigger canoes will bring
you to the famous "Coral Gardens" of Bora Bora, and other special
areas, where you will casually snorkel among 5 different kinds of corals
and see great numbers and varieties of colorful lagoon fish. (Note: These
tours go to different snorkeling spots than the above described snorkeling
locations after sharkfeeding- they emphasize snorkeling in particular, rather
than the sharkfeeding.)
GREAT
PICNICS:
These
snorkeling tours ALSO INCLUDE a casual stop over at a white sandy beach
for a Motu Picnic. Roughly 30- 45 minutes of resting and eating on the motu
is a wonderful experience. Local fruits and drinks are provided. (no alchohol).
Of course, if you'd rather continue snorkeling, it's great off the coast
of the motu as well!

Snorkeling
tours are from 2:00 pm- 5:00 pm, and run after the sharkfeeding tours
daily.
(You can participate in one OR both tours if you like.) Cost of snorkeling tour is $23.00 US dollars. |
